This Is Still Not a Pipe puts Magritte next to more than 40 artists who came after him. Free entry at Gagosian Grosvenor Hill until 12 December.
Magritte for free in Mayfair: Gagosian’s show is open this Sunday too

You don’t need a ticket to see René Magritte in London this autumn. This Is Still Not a Pipe: The Afterlife of Magritte is on at Gagosian’s Grosvenor Hill gallery in Mayfair until 12 December 2026, and it’s free to walk in.
What’s on show
The show hangs Magritte’s own paintings, works on paper, sculpture and photography next to work by more than 40 artists who picked up his ideas later. Gagosian put it together with the Fondation Magritte in Brussels.
The Magritte you’ll probably remember is The Philosopher’s Lamp (1936), the man whose long nose dips into his own pipe. It’s on loan from a private collection in Brussels, and Time Out points out it hasn’t been shown publicly for around 20 years. L’Apparition (1928) and The Commonplace (1964) are here too, along with plenty of his apples, bowler hats and clouds.
The later artists include Jeff Koons, Maurizio Cattelan, Sarah Lucas, Mona Hatoum, Robert Gober, Dana Schutz, Issy Wood and David Hammons.
Opening hours, including two extra days
The gallery is usually open Tuesday to Saturday. This weekend it opens on Sunday and Monday as well:
- Tuesday to Saturday: 10am to 6pm
- Sunday 11 October: 10am to 6pm
- Monday 12 October: 10am to 8pm
Neither the gallery’s listing nor Time Out mentions booking.
Getting there
The address is 20 Grosvenor Hill, London W1K 3QD. Bond Street station (Central, Jubilee and Elizabeth lines) is the closest, and Green Park is a little further south.
If you’re coming into town for Frieze week from 14 to 18 October, it pairs well with the free sculpture walk in Regent’s Park. That’s two good art stops without spending anything.
