The short version: Bar Douro, the Portuguese small-plates restaurant, opens its third site at 10 Greek Street, Soho, on Wednesday 4 November 2026. It’s the first restaurant in the UK to serve Maronesa vaca velha, beef from mature cows of an old native breed from the mountains of northern Portugal. Expect petiscos, garlic prawns, salt cod, black pork and a long Portuguese wine list.

Here’s what’s on the menu and how to get a table, checked against three reports of the opening.

The beef everyone will talk about

Bar Douro has worked with Carnes Irmãos Unidos to import Maronesa beef, a native breed from Trás-os-Montes in northern Portugal, for the first time in the UK. On the menu it appears as vaca velha, which means “old cow”: meat from mature animals, prized for deep flavour and marbling. It’s served flame-grilled, as rib-eye and sirloin.

What else to order

  • Croquetes de alheira, croquettes made with the traditional smoked sausage
  • Bacalhau à brás, salt cod with egg and potato
  • Gambas à guilho, garlic prawns
  • Secretos de porco preto, acorn-fed black pork
  • Piri-piri chicken from a family recipe

The menu is overseen by executive chef Amit Bagyal. Prices hadn’t been published when we checked.

The wine

Bar Douro was founded by wine importer Max Graham, so the list is long and entirely Portuguese, from across the country, not just the Douro valley the restaurant is named after.

Ten years on

Bar Douro opened its first restaurant ten years ago, and this third site marks the anniversary. It takes over 10 Greek Street, the restaurant space that closed in July 2026.

Launch offer

For its first two weeks, members of The Nudge can get 50% off food from 4 to 18 November, excluding the rib-eye. For more offers around London, see London restaurant deals this November.

Making a night of it

Greek Street is in the middle of Soho, a few minutes from Carnaby, whose Christmas lights switch on the same day, and from Regent Street, lit from 5 November. See our Christmas lights walk. For other openings, see new restaurants in London this November.

What are petiscos?

Petiscos are Portugal’s small plates, the equivalent of Spanish tapas: dishes made for sharing over a drink. At Bar Douro, the idea is to order a few at a time and keep going. Two or three per person, plus a grilled main to share, is a good rule of thumb.

How to order for two

  • Start with the croquetes de alheira and the gambas
  • Add bacalhau à brás, the classic Lisbon salt cod dish
  • Share the vaca velha as your main, or the secretos de porco preto if you want something lighter on the bill
  • Ask the staff to suggest a glass of Portuguese red to match the beef

Getting there

  • Tottenham Court Road (Central, Northern and Elizabeth lines) is about 5 minutes’ walk
  • Leicester Square (Northern and Piccadilly) is about 6 minutes
  • Piccadilly Circus is about 8 minutes

Soho’s Portuguese moment

Portuguese food has had a strong few years in London, from custard tart bakeries to grill restaurants. Bar Douro’s focus on wine and on produce imported from small Portuguese suppliers is what sets it apart, and the Maronesa beef is a first for the UK.
