Edmondo opens at Bank: Big Mamma’s 200-seat Milanese restaurant in the City

Big Mamma Group opens Edmondo at 6 Lombard Street on 6 November: 200 seats, 1930s Milanese glamour, XL focaccia, spice-crusted steaks and a Ferrari room.

Lombard Street in the City of London

The short version: Big Mamma Group, the team behind Gloria and Circolo Popolare, opens Edmondo at 6 Lombard Street, Bank, on Thursday 6 November 2026. It’s one of the group’s biggest restaurants, with about 200 seats in a Grade II-listed building next to the Bank of England, a 1930s Milanese look, and a menu built around Italian produce and British meat and fish. Book through the Big Mamma website.

Here’s what to expect, from the rooms to the dishes, checked against three separate reports of the opening.

The look: 1930s Milan in the City

The design takes its cue from Villa Necchi Campiglio, the 1930s Milan villa designed by Piero Portaluppi. Expect Art Deco lines, polished surfaces, a central bar and an open kitchen counter in the main dining room. It’s a departure from the colourful, kitsch style of the group’s earlier restaurants.

Three private rooms

  • La Libreria: decorated with Ferrari memorabilia, including a vintage racing suit worn by Nigel Mansell
  • Il Salotto: a heritage-listed alcove with old English timber panelling
  • Il Ridotto: the smallest, seating up to 10

In a part of London full of client lunches and team dinners, the private rooms are likely to book up quickly in December.

What’s on the menu

The menu mixes Italian produce with British seafood and meat. Dishes mentioned so far include:

  • XL focaccia, a towering version of the bread
  • Gnocchi al Gorgonzola
  • Cornish crab and turbot
  • Steaks from Philip Warren, the Cornish butcher, from T-bone to tagliata, with Edmondo’s own spice crust, which the team calls the signature dish
  • Italian chocolate cake with a molten centre, and an affogato with a twist

For drinks, there are new cocktails including a house barrel-aged Boulevardier. Prices hadn’t been published when we checked.

Who is Big Mamma?

Big Mamma Group is the Franco-Italian group behind some of London’s busiest Italian restaurants. It recently opened Barbarella in Canary Wharf. There’s also an Edmondo in Hamburg, but the London restaurant only shares its name.

How to get a table

  • Book through the Big Mamma Group website
  • Weekday lunches will be busy with City workers. Early evenings and weekends may be easier
  • Big Mamma restaurants are popular in their first weeks, so book ahead for the opening fortnight

Nearby

Bank is also a short walk from Leadenhall Market, whose Christmas lights switch on on 19 November, and from Cheapside. For more new places, see new restaurants in London this November, and for money-saving ideas, London restaurant deals this November.

Why the City is getting more big restaurants

The Square Mile used to empty out after 6pm on Fridays and stay quiet at weekends. That has changed, with more people living nearby, the Elizabeth line bringing visitors to Liverpool Street, Farringdon and Moorgate, and big openings such as the new London Museum at Smithfield. Large, all-day restaurants like Edmondo are part of that shift: places that work for a client lunch on a Tuesday and a group dinner on a Saturday.
