The clocks go back one hour at 2am on Sunday 25 October 2026. Here is what changes, what you need to do and when they go forward again.
When do the clocks go back in 2026? Sunday 25 October

The clocks go back this weekend. At 2am on Sunday 25 October 2026, they go back one hour to 1am, and British Summer Time ends for the year.
Do I lose or gain an hour?
You gain one. Saturday night is an hour longer, so it’s an extra hour in bed.
Do I need to change my clocks?
Phones, laptops and anything else connected to the internet change on their own. Older clocks, ovens, microwaves and some car clocks need changing by hand.
What changes in London
Evenings get darker earlier. After the change, the sun sets in London at around 4.45pm. Mornings are lighter for a few weeks.
When do the clocks go forward again?
On Sunday 28 March 2027, when British Summer Time starts again.
Making the most of the dark evenings
Darker evenings are when London’s light shows look their best. See the Christmas lights switch-on dates and Christmas at Kew. This Sunday also brings free Diwali in Trafalgar Square.
