Renoir's Bal du moulin de la Galette, 1876

A standard adult ticket for Renoir and Love, the National Gallery’s big autumn show, costs £25. From Friday 23 October there’s a much cheaper way in: on Friday evenings you pay what you like, and that can be as little as £1.

How the Friday tickets work

  • Every Friday from 23 October 2026 to 15 January 2027.
  • Time slots start at 5.30pm. The last slot you can book is 7.45pm, and the gallery stays open until 9pm on Fridays.
  • Choose the Pay What You Wish ticket, type in your amount (£1 or more) and add it to your basket.
  • You can book online in advance or try your luck on the day at the door.

What’s in the show

More than 40 paintings from the mid-1860s to the mid-1880s, when Renoir painted Paris enjoying itself: dances, boating parties, friends and couples. The big loan is Bal du moulin de la Galette (1876) from the Musée d’Orsay, on show in the UK for the first time. The National Gallery’s own The Umbrellas is in it too.

It’s popular. The gallery says 22,033 tickets were booked ahead of opening, beating the 15,654 booked for Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers over the same period.

Normal prices and times

  • Standard: £25
  • Concessions: £18
  • National Art Pass: £12.50
  • Under 17s: free

The exhibition is in the Sainsbury Wing until 31 January 2027. The gallery opens from 10am to 6pm, and until 9pm on Fridays. Charing Cross and Leicester Square are the nearest stations.
