Omakase in Chelsea, a chophouse revival in the City and New Haven pizza in Covent Garden: the openings we could confirm, in date order.
October is a big month for openings. These are the new restaurants we could confirm in at least two sources, in date order. Opening dates slip all the time in this business, so check the restaurant’s Instagram before you make a trip.
Endo, Chelsea: open from 1 October
Sushi chef Endo Kazutoshi’s new place at 8-9 Blacklands Terrace is a ten-seat omakase counter with no menu: you eat what the chef serves. Upstairs is Moga, a listening bar.
Cloth Cornhill, City of London: open from 1 October
The team behind Cloth has taken over the Grade II-listed Simpson’s Tavern at 38½ Cornhill, one of the City’s oldest chophouses. Expect old-school British cooking. Part of the building stays a standing-only pub.
Da Pino, Stoke Newington: from 7 October
At 175 Stoke Newington Road, in the space that used to be Bianca’s. Chef Giuseppe ‘Pino’ Pepe cooks southern Italian food with a focus on Puglia, and likes to experiment with it.
Clementine, Islington: from 10 October
Anna Higham, the pastry chef at Quince, opens an all-day café and bakery at 190 New North Road, across the road from Quince. It is small, around 20 seats, with breakfast first and then lunches like pies and soups.
Dishoom Borough: soft launch from 12 October
Dishoom’s eighth London restaurant opens in the Hop Exchange opposite Borough Market, with 50% off food during the soft launch from 12 to 20 October. More on that here.
Bubala, Covent Garden: from 19 October
The vegetarian, Middle Eastern-inspired restaurant opens its fourth site and its biggest so far. Covent Garden fans of the Spitalfields and Soho branches get more room to try for a table.
Solis, Soho: from 20 October
At 26 Kingly Street, from the duo behind TATA Eatery. It is a standalone version of their South American-inspired grill, with chicken and flat iron steak at the centre of a longer menu.
Lenny’s, Covent Garden: from 27 October
Max Lewis’s New Haven-style pizza, the thin, charred ‘apizza’ that built a following during a pub residency in Finsbury Park, gets a permanent home at 24 Henrietta Street.
A tip for first visits
New places are usually calmer at weekday lunch than on a Friday night, and soft launches often come with discounts while the kitchen settles in. If a place is fully booked online, many keep some tables for walk-ins.
