Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data London Lately (londonlately.co.uk) collects, why, and what rights you have. We are the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at any time through our contact form.
The short version
- We collect very little: your email if you sign up to the newsletter, and your name, email and message if you contact us.
- We do not sell your data and we do not run advertising trackers. We use Google Analytics only if you accept statistics cookies.
- You can unsubscribe or ask us to delete your data whenever you want.
What we collect and why
Newsletter
If you sign up, we collect your email address and the date you signed up. We send you a confirmation email first, and you are only added to the list once you click the link in it. Our legal basis is your consent. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw consent at any time. Sign-ups that are not confirmed are deleted automatically after 30 days.
Newsletter data is stored in our WordPress database using the MailPoet plugin, and emails are sent from our own web server. If we move to a dedicated email delivery service, we will update this policy before we do.
Contact form
If you contact us, we collect your name, email address and message so we can reply. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering enquiries and correcting our journalism. We keep messages for up to 12 months, then delete them, unless they relate to an ongoing issue.
Technical data
Like any website, our hosting provider records basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. This is used to keep the site running and secure, under our legitimate interest in protecting the site, and is kept for a limited period. Our security plugin also logs IP addresses of failed login attempts to the admin area.
Website statistics and cookies
If you accept statistics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit, which pages they read and how they found us. Google Analytics collects details such as the pages you view, the time spent on them, your approximate location (city level), your device and browser, and the site that sent you. Our legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. If you reject statistics cookies, Google Analytics does not load. We keep Analytics data for 14 months.
The full list of cookies, and the button to change your choice, are in our Cookie Policy.
Who we share data with
We do not sell or rent personal data. We share it only with the companies that provide our hosting and infrastructure, who process it on our behalf, with Google, which runs Google Analytics for us if you accept statistics cookies, or where the law requires us to.
International transfers
If any of our service providers process personal data outside the UK, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as UK adequacy regulations or the International Data Transfer Agreement. Google may process Analytics data in the United States under the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- ask us to correct or delete it
- object to or restrict how we use it
- withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent
- ask for your data in a portable format
To use any of these rights, contact us through our contact form. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to sort it out with you first.
Children
London Lately is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use personal data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
